6YS History and Values

How the company was named and what it stands for

In 2002, 6 experienced business and IT professionals sat around a table and started to ask some hard questions about the IT business. It went something like this

IT Projects

Why is it so hard to complete IT projects?

Why do they always cost more then expected?

Why are they always late?

IT Platforms

Why are all companies building the same platforms and all having the same project and system integration costs?

Why do SMEs have inferior back up/restore software and infrastructure?

Why are SMEs either skimping on Disaster Recovery or have the costs of wasted IT DR kit?

Why don’t SMEs replicate their production data and restore files on demand using SAN technology?

IT Resources

Why are all SME companies struggling with the risk of a single IT resource when they actually need a team of specialists for

  • Network and security
  • Systems and platform
  • Storage and backup

Why do SMEs risk losing the key resource who knows their IT systems?

IT Support

Why are SME companies struggling with IT support?

Why are companies settling for non-standard and undocumented implementations?

IT Costs

Why are IT costs so variable and jump as the business grows? No sooner is the project bill paid; another bill appears for an upgrade!

Why is it so hard and costly to deal with the large multinationals?

Why do IT companies make it so hard to understand with all the jargon?

Why do SMEs want to own their IT when they don’t own power stations or telecommunications companies?

IT solution

Why not do something different to assist the SME?

Why not supply software as a service in a central location with DR?

Why not supply all the IT specialists and all the support processes?

Why not make IT costs consistent?

Why not create a straight talking and dealing culture?

Why not create a company to do all this? 6YS

This is known as the “6 levels of questioning” that really gets to the answers that solve problems. This questioning gave the team the business direction to provide "Software As A Service" to the SME market.

They decided on a name depicting the 6 Whys of question and the 6 people that started the company.6 Whys got shortened to 6YS as the shape of the “Y” represented the 3 pillars of focus for the company Customers, Partners and Staff.

The name 6YS is a continual reminder to ask the hard questions to get to the best solution and support for our clients through our partners and staff.
