Last month we announced the availability of custom backgrounds in Teams, and I’m sure by now most people have given them a try. Unfortunately with only a limited selection to choose from, the novelty wears off pretty quickly.
Today Microsoft announced that from mid- to late-May they will be rolling out the ability for users to upload custom background images. Additionally, new admin functionality will be introduced that allows admins to limit users’ use of backgrounds. The following policies will be available:
- Offer no filters
- Offer background blur only
- Offer background blur and default-provided images
- All, which includes the ability for users to upload custom images
If you are the impatient sort and want to customise your Teams background before this new feature release, you can still pop custom images into your C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams\Backgrounds\Uploads folder (or ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Backgrounds if you are on a Mac).
